2019 Video

Click on the YouTube link below to see the official Video of the 2019 event. This was our first venture into filming the event & we hope to continue and improve it going forward (apologies in advance for the lack of Pre 65 footage on the Sunday - technical issues).

Many thanks to Dario Leonetti for his assistance with the video.

A group of our regular visitors from Spain have put together an excellent video of their trip to the 2019 event, which captures the true spirit of our trial and the beautiful locations.

Sincere thanks to John Watterson from Isle of Man Newspapers for allowing us to reproduce his report of this years event.

The premier pre-65 class honours went to Lancastrian Kiaran Hankin, an experienced all-rounder who has enjoyed top-10 finishes in the Manx Grand Prix, Classic TT and Ultra-Lightweight TT.

Riding a well-fettled 185cc BSA Bantam, he was third overnight after 32 sections in the west and south of the island. Leading the way after Saturday was three-time former World Trials Champion Yrjo Vesterinen, now aged 66, who showed glimpses of his old style on Saturday. But it all went awry for the popular Finn on Sunday when his day started badly when he put his Bantam the wrong side of the ends’ card on the second section of the morning at Cooil Slieu, observed by Dave Welsh. By the time he got to the infamous top sub at Cluggid Gate he had already slipped down the order before he took an undignified and hefty fall into the river on the final turn.

He was not alone there, the slippery section would have been a tough test for experts in the Manx National Two-Day six weeks earlier. Mark Jackson made it a Lancashire 1-2 when claiming second place on the 240cc Cub, with 2018 winner Stephen Murphy of Northern Ireland third. Former Manx Two Day Trial winner (not to mention Senior MGP and F1 TT) Nick Jefferies started well and was joint fifth overnight with a loss of three, but he added 38 on Sunday to drop to 15th on the Bantam. Nick, now aged 67, suffered a heart attack last November but was back to great form.

The Clubman pre-65 class saw an astonishing clean ride by Peter Carson of Derbyshire on a replica of a 1954 rigid back-end Bantam. One mark behind him virtually throughout was Chris Gascoigne of Lancashire on the 250cc Francis Barnett.

In the Twinshock premier class any hopes Juan Knight had of another victory went south when he missed a flag at Montpelier (Druidale watersplash) on Sunday morning. He ended on 21 for the weekend aboard the 1981 ex-Sparrer Druggan 350 Ossa Gripper. Knight and Glen Scholey of North Yorkshire both ended Saturday’s run without loss, but the latter had to settle for fourth overall and best newcomer on his Honda RS.
Wayne Wardell is likely to acknowledge that he was lucky to escape a five on the first sub alongside Juan-e-Clarey’s Bridge on Saturday morning, but he ended on 21, the same score as Knight with the TY250 Yamaha and one ahead of Scholey. Graham Christian also rode well on his TY250 to finish fifth on 33. Lee Wardell and first-timer Dylan Cain also impressed.

Welshman Steve Plain, a regular visitor to the island, bounced back strongly from illness to win the Clubman Twinshock category on 10 marks, having also cleaned day one on his 175 Yamaha. Under-35s not qualifying for the overall awards included Daniel Smith, runner-up in the Clubman pre-65 category on 27 marks, and Thomas Knight and Matty Lund - second and third in the Twinshock premier.
